Linkages Board Meeting
7 P.M. June 8, 2009

Attendance: Walter Boston, Paul Caccamise, Bill Fulton, Barbara LeSavoy, Jed Metzger, Shae Hanford, Jack Schottmuller, Tanya Schueler, Howard Spindler, Liz Wild, Roger Young
 
The meeting was called to order by President Paul Caccamise at 7:10. 
Bill Fulton introduced Liz Wild.  She will join the board in the fall.
The minutes were reviewed and approved.
Treasurer's Report: Paul brought Tony's final treasurer's report.  Paul, Jack and Joe are now signers, and Joe will handle day-to-day bookkeeping.
 
Committee Reports:
Nominating Committee: Bill Fulton presented this slate:
For 2012: Paul Caccamise, Debra Fromm-Faria, Howard Spindler, Elizabeth Wild
For 2010: (an unfinished term) Jed Metzger
For Student Representative: Parker Moore of Fairport HS
Walter Boston moved, Shae Hanford seconded, and the slate was approved.  Bill was congratulated on a job well done.
Official Delegation:  will be Paul, Dick Fitts, and City Councilwoman Carolee Conklin.  Walter moved that Linkages pay airfare for the current-board-member-representative for the official delegation.  It was approved.
Trip: Shae reported that 7 people have signed up.  Several will travel independently.  The current location of a deposit for Dick Fitts is not well defined.  The bus tour with tour guide may not work well with this number of people.  It will be reworked. 
Anniversary Events: 20 photos are being printed for exhibition at Image City 7/9 - 8/15, and the Link Gallery in the fall.  The photos must then be matted and framed.  There will be an opening reception at Image City, and possibly at the Link Gallery.  Postcards must be prepared to promote these events. (no vote on it)
ISCOR will have their own exhibit at Image City in September.  They are looking for photos from travelers.
Paul proposed that Marina Verinikina perform her own ballads on Thu, 8/13 for $10 per ticket, which we split with her, or we just pay her $150.  She sells cd's before and after the show.  She performs in English, Russian, or some Spanish.  This requires an organizer.  It might tie in with the usual August picnic, or the Link Gallery exhibition.
Tanya will take us to the Jordanville Monastery on 9/28, or a Sunday soon after.  It might be a bus tour.  We hope to learn about the monastery and hear the singing monks.
Paul would like to see a panel presentation on the history and significance of Velikiy Novgorod in the fall.  We discussed some possible panelists.
Sister Cities is doing an economic development event with IBC.  I missed it completely.
Communication: The postcard promoting the tour was well-received, if not wildly effective.  With the $185 annual postal permit, each mailing item costs less than $.20.

Membership: Joe was absent.
 
Education: Tanya reported that the NYSAFLT teacher candidates will be travelling June 27 - July 14.  They are available to bring back invitations for the September trip if needed.
 
Program, Culture: various, as noted above.
 
Partnership for Children: Jed is meeting with his fellow travelers now.  He sent us an email thanking Paul for his help in preparing the trip, and asking Cork to connect with cie at typepad?? to follow the blogging travellers.  The group will report back to us on their trip on July 13, 7:00, here in room 300A. 
Open World news noted with Substance Abuse below.
There is grant money available (for what?)  Brockport and Novgorod State U are eligible.  They are working to apply by July 13.
 
Partnership for Eldercare: Joe is absent.
 
Partnership for Prevention of Substance Abuse: Jack reported that there are 9 candidates from Novgorod. 4 or 5 will be chosen.  They and a facilitator will come to Rochester November 14 -23, as part of the Open World Trip.  Paul will help with selection.
 
Women’s Issues: Barb had no report, I hope.  She still cannot make connections in Novgorod.
Business: Walter Boston reported that, while we are striving to shut down the business as far as US taxes, it actually appears to be flourishing in Novgorod.
