We received a report on the Hanseatic celebration, just a few days ago, in Novgorod. If the history of the Hanseatic League has slipped your mind, here is some help from Wikipedia. Our reporter is Oleg Demidov. Many more photos are here. (I am partial to the Hanseatic Biker League, myself)

Dear Paul and Dick,
For four days Novgorod has been hosting the Hansa Days of New Times: June 18 thrugh 21. It was for the first time when Hanseatic towns came together in Russia. I was involved in preparations as this great international festival was included on the big program of 1150th anniversary of Veliky Novgorod. 83 towns from 14 European countries took part in the Hansa Days in Novgorod. I personally like most events on the medieval market, the historical reconstruction festival and the hansa arts exhibition. However there were a lot of events of different range for every taste: from economic forum to sport competitions.
Our committee's photographer shared a few pictures of the procession of the Hansa Days participants that was yesterday. I thought it might be interesting for you to have a look how it all was going here. The procession started on the Market side of the town, then went over the bridge to the Sofia side and then along the central streets and Kremlin to Sofiyskaya square where was the closing ceremony and passing the flag of Hansa to Estonian town of Parnu which will host the Hansa Days in 2010.
Have a nice viewing!
Yours,
Oleg
