Teaching Fellows Chosen
The Linkages Education Committee has selected two junior high school language teachers to lead the annual seminar for English teachers in Velikiy Novgorod this summer.
Jennifer Goodman, the choice for the Linkages fellow, has eight years of experience teaching Spanish in the Churchville-Chili Central School District. Not only will she bring her instructional skills to the seminar/workshop, but her keen interest and appreciation for other cultures will serve her in good stead.
Jennifer will be joined by Sheri Green of West Seneca, NY, the NYSAFLT cultural scholarship winner who is jointly sponsored by the New York State Association of Language Teachers and Linkages. Sheri is a teacher of French at Hamburg Middle School and has a background in Russian as well as French. Sheri’s exposure to many cultures through travel and work as a translator in the military combined with her knowledge of pedagogy and passion for teaching will help to create an engaging environment for Novgorod colleagues.
This is the eighteenth year that teachers from Rochester and New York State will travel to our sister city to provide communicative practice and cultural enrichment for groups of English teachers. This on-going Linkages program is coordinated in Velikiy Novgorod by Galina Popova at the Center for Educational Development and Irina Shirina, head of the Russian-American Friendship Society. The seminar/workshop fulfills a professional development requirement for the Russian teachers of English.
The Linkages selection committee included six members of the Education Committee, five of whom have led the seminar in past years, and three of whom are members of NYSAFLT.
